Inducted Class of 1994
A five-sport star, Hank was named Geneva High’s “All-Around Athlete of the Year” in both his junior and senior years. He was a member of Coach Jim Loman’s “Whiz Kids” which were three-time league champions and Section V Finalists in basketball. He was named to the Wayne-Finger Lakes All-Star basketball team three times and a All-Section V selection twice. He won the Section V pole vault championship with the first 11’ leap of his career.
After graduating from Geneva in 1947, he went on to St. Lawrence University on a golf and basketball scholarship. As captain of the golf team as a junior and senior, Toady played in the NCAA East-West Tournament competing against later pros Don January and Billy Maxwell. In the tournament he beat Jim Blair, one of the top college golfers of the early 1950s. He was a qualifier to the U.S. Amateur in 1950, being named as first alternate. Toady was the Geneva City Golf Champion three times and won club championships at five different country clubs including three at Geneva CC. He was inducted into the Corning Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
