Carl Wenzel coached the boy’s basketball team at Geneva High from 1980 to 2001, winning three Finger Lakes East titles and two Section V championships (’89 & ’99). Over that span his teams won 265 games and he was named Section V Class AA Coach of the Year twice, the Finger Lakes East Coach of the Year and was awarded the New York State Coaches Association Honor Award in 1999. His 1996-97 team won the prestigious Section V Thomas Emmanuel Sportsmanship Award. Carl also coached baseball and boys tennis. He has had a positive impact on more than 400 athletes during his 27-year coaching career at Geneva. He and his wife, Ann (Buckley), have three children, Andrew, Caroline, and Maureen.

He retired after a teaching career at Geneva in 2008 and is an assistant men’s basketball coach at Hobart College. Carl was an All-Parochial league selection in basketball and baseball at Assumption High School in Syracuse. He also was the starting guard on the St. John Fisher College basketball team for three years, averaging 12 points per game. He was inducted into the St. John Fisher Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
