Steve was a 1987 graduate of Geneva High where he lettered in baseball, football, basketball, and volleyball. He was a four-year letterwinner in baseball. Steve batted .383 as a junior and .414 as a senior. He recorded fifteen victories as a pitcher. He was 1st-team all-league and was named team MVP his senior year. He was also the recipient of the Deledonne Award his senior year. He played free safety on the football team and had nine interceptions his junior year, a league record at that time. He was 1st-team all-league and was named team MVP on defense his junior year.
Steve was a 1991 graduate of the University of Rochester where he played baseball and football. He was a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team where he pitched and played second base. He was the Rookie of the Year in 1988 and was the U of R Most Valuable Pitcher in 1989. He had fourteen career wins at the U of R. The 1989 team’s twenty nine victories were the most in school history. Steve also played defensive back on the football team. He was a member of the 1989 team which set a school record for the most victories in a single season (9). The team was ranked 9th in NCAA Division III that year.
