A 1968 graduate of Geneva High, Herb was a three-time all-league selection. He helped lead the Go-Go Panthers to league titles his junior and senior years. He was selected to the All-Greater Rochester and the Section V All-Tournament team his senior year. A three-time letterwinner in baseball, Herb was named team MVP his junior and senior years and helped the Panthers win back-to-back league titles.
Herb was the Chief Justice of the Geneva High Student Court and received the Martin Luther King Award which is given to a student who exemplified that for which Dr. King stood. He attended Auburn Community College where he was an all-conference selection in basketball. He graduated from Onondaga Community College in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration.
