A standout on defense, Mike was a unanimous Wayne Finger Lakes 1st Team All-Star his senior year at DeSales. A 1967 graduate of DeSales High, Mike was a three-year starter in the varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams. A quarterback and a linebacker he passed and ran for 22 touchdowns and kicked a 37 yard field goal his senior year. Mike batted over .300 on the DeSales baseball team which won two league championships.
Mike was a three year starter on the University of Rochester football team. He was a linebacker and led the team in tackles and was named the MVP on defense all three years that he started. Mike was co-captain his senior year when the team had a record of 8-1 and was ranked second in the Lambert Cup for small colleges. He was nominated for Little All-American honors and was selected player of the week several times during his career. He was named to the NYS Sportswriters All-New York Small College Team his senior year. Mike was also a three year starter on the baseball team at third base and catcher with a batting average over .300.
