Coach
Inducted Class of 1999
When Gloria founded the Montgomery Boxing Club in 1988, it was not only to teach youth how to box. It was also to help boys and young men in the areas of education, athletics, and social responsibility. Her success led her to national acclaim when in 1997 she was one of five coaches across the country to be honored with USA Weekend Magazine’s Most Caring Coach Awards.
A certified American boxing coach and referee, she is the only women on the U.S. Committee that chooses Olympic boxing coaches. In 1991, Kimberly-Clark Corporation selected her as one of 25 outstanding Americans to receive the Kleenex Says Bless You Award for extraordinary community service. Rochester family court judge Anthony Sciolino says Gloria “makes kids believe in themselves. She doesn’t accept excuses. She loves them unconditionally but makes them meet her high expectations.”
A graduate of Geneva High, Monroe Community College, and SUNY Cortland, Gloria retired in 2000 from the New York State Division for Youth. She currently runs the Team Norfolk Boxing Club in Norfolk, Virginia. One of the top amateur boxing coaches in the country Gloria served as the head men's and women's coach for the U.S.A. boxing team in the 2011 Pan-Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
