A 1951 graduate of Geneva High, Dom was awarded varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. He was named to the West Central Conference Football All-Star team in 1950. He was also awarded the Rogers Trophy as the Most Valuable Football Player that year. Dom was a member of the 1949-50 sectional championship basketball team that was inducted into the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.

Dom played football at Norwich University where he was named to the All-Vermont All Star Team from 1951 to 1953 and the All-New England Team in 1953 and 1954. He was elected team captain in 1954 and named the team MVP. Dom was elected to the Norwich Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985 and was a member of the 1951 team which was also inducted into the Norwich Hall of Fame.
