An outstanding pitcher, Marty was named to either the first or second Finger Lakes East team all four years of high school. A 1977 graduate of Geneva High, Marty lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. Marty batted over .400 with a 15-6 pitching record and a 1.87 ERA. He helped lead the Panthers to two league championships.

Marty played baseball at Monroe Community College and was selected to the Penn-York All Conference Team in 1979. He also received MCC’s Most Valuable Pitcher Award that year. He transferred to Ithaca College where he had a record of 7-2 with an ERA of 1.98 in 1980 and pitched a no-hitter against Hobart. He was an ECAC Division III All-Conference selection and was chosen to the 1980 College World Series All-Tournament Team. Marty was the winning pitcher for Ithaca in the final game of the 1980 Division III College World Series. Marty has coached baseball at Ithaca College, Onondaga Community College, Hobart College and is currently the head varsity baseball coach at Penn Yan Academy.
