Geneva High School Class of 1959
A two-time sectional champion in wrestling, David played sports because he “loved the competitiveness of the game and the camaraderie of team members”. He was very competitive on the mat as he was undefeated in both his junior and senior years. His only loss in his sophomore year was in the sectional finals. In his senior year he was unscored upon until the sectional final which he won 7-2. David was also a two-year letter winner in lacrosse and football. He played lacrosse for the legendary coach Joe Corcoran who is also in the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame.
David went on to Winona College in Minnesota where he had a stellar wrestling career. He helped lead the Warrior wrestling teams to three conference championships and was the conference champion in his weight class all four years. David was a three time All-American posting a 49-17-1 career record which was 7th all-time in school history. In 2011 David was named to the Winona College Athletic Hall of Fame.
David went on to teach science and math in the Winona Public School system. He was the head wrestling coach for fifteen years coaching several state place winners. He has received several awards and honors in the field of education. Since retiring from teaching he has been very active in his community as a volunteer. His brother Chico was inducted into the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
