“Birdie” McCormick starred in baseball, basketball and football at Geneva High School and graduated in 1901. He attended Bucknell University on an athletic scholarship and was an outstanding catcher on their baseball team and also played on the basketball team. “Birdie” left Bucknell after 2 years to play pro baseball with Hazelton, PA’s minor league team in 1903 & 1904. In 1905 he played for Rochester in the old Eastern League. In the winter of 1905-06 he played with a U.S. All-Star team on tour in Cuba. This team featured such stars as Joe McCarthy, George “Hooks” Wiltse, Jack Barry and other big league players. He went on to play for Syracuse in the old Eastern League and with Amsterdam, Johnstown and Gloversville in the old State League. “Birdie” was one of the first directors of the Geneva Red Birds minor league team.
