James C. Loman

James C. Loman
Coach
Inducted Class of 1991

Jim Loman coached football, lacrosse and basketball for 26 years at Geneva High School. During these years, Geneva High set amazing records in these three sports…dominating their division…and playing the larger schools in N.Y. State on even terms. Jim produced athletes who went on to colleges and universities to become All-Americans. Only once in his G.H.S. career did his football teams lose more than 2 games in a season. His basketball teams were perennial winners of the Finger Lakes League. His lacrosse teams were known and respected throughout the state, and even in the Baltimore, Maryland area.

Jim went through the Geneva school system and attended Hobart College where he played varsity football, basketball and lacrosse. After graduation from Hobart in 1910 he coached in Niles, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan before returning to Geneva high School in 1923. Jim said that he got his biggest thrills whenever his lacrosse teams beat on the powerful Syracuse teams. Jim retired in 1949. Loman Field is named in his honor.
