A student-athlete, Matthew topped off his outstanding basketball career by being named to both the All-Greater Rochester and the All-Academic All-State teams his senior year. A complete player he was a three-year letter winner at DeSales High before transferring to Geneva High his senior year.
While he was at DeSales Matt averaged 24 points per game leading the Saints to the sectional finals his junior year. He scored his 1000th point that year and was named the Finger Lakes Times Fab Five Co-Player of the Year. He was also named to the Class D All-State 4th team, the Section V Class D All-Tournament team, Finger Lakes West 1st team as well as an All-Greater Rochester Honorable Mention selection. Matt was a 2nd team all-league selection as a sophomore. He transferred to Geneva High his senior year where he helped lead the Panthers to a league title and a trip to the sectional finals. In addition to being named All-Greater Rochester Matt was a 1st-team all-league selection and was named to the Section V Class A all-tournament team.
He also played baseball where he was a 1st-team selection both his junior and senior years as well as a second team selection as a sophomore. Matt received the Geneva Sports Hall of Fame award at the Block G his senior year. After graduating from Geneva High in 2005 Matt went on to McGill University in Montreal where he chose an academic scholarship over an athletic scholarship. He also has a master's degree in Engineering from Cornell University.
