Inducted Class of 1992
A 1949 graduate of Geneva High, Wally helped lead Geneva to four Finger Lakes league titles including it’s first ever in 1946. A shortstop, he batted .400 all three years that he started. He had a 7-2 record as a pitcher his sophomore year and a career 11-2 record. As a freshman he pitched against and beat future major league pitcher Johnny Antonelli of Jefferson High in the sectionals. Wally also played shortstop for the Geneva Kiwanis team reaching the state championship game all three years. The team won the New York State Kiwanis title by defeating Baldwin, Long Island 6-1 at Ebbetts Field, Brooklyn in 1946.
In 1949 he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies and played in their minor league system until 1954. He also served as a scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1962 to 1966. In 1955 he graduated from the University of Syracuse and entered the field of education. As a baseball coach at Onondaga Central School his teams won three league and two sectional titles. In 1987 he was inducted into the Schenectady Baseball Hall of Fame.
