Wang attended Geneva High School where he was an outstanding left-handed pitcher on the baseball team. He played baseball in the Cincinnati Reds organization up until World War I when he served with the famous 45th Rainbow Division in France. He pitched for a strong service team while in the Army.

After the war, he pitched for local semi-pro teams for many years. He once pitched against the Rochester Red Wings and also against the great Rube Waddell and an All-Star pro team. Wang was one of the best pitchers in the old Empire State League during the 1920s an 1930s. He later pitched fast-pitch softball in Geneva. Wang was rated as one of the very best pitchers of all time by the older Genevans who saw him pitch.
