Carlton starred in football, basketball, and lacrosse at Geneva High. He went on to make a name for himself in football and lacrosse at Hobart College. Carlton was an outstanding attackman for Hobart’s lacrosse team from 1934 to 1937. He was chosen Most Valuable Player and first-team All-American in 1936 and 1937. He played on the American team against Canada in 1936 and against England in 1937. Carlton was a member of the two North All-Star teams and also earned varsity letters in football and basketball, making him a nine-letter man.

Carlton helped restart lacrosse at Geneva High School and was an official of this sport for eight years. Carlton was a charter member of the Hobart Hall of Fame and he served as executive director of the Hobart Alumni Association for many years. Carlton Ferris was well liked, a gentleman…and a friend to all.
