Fran capped off his exceptional high school athletic career by being named the outstanding Geneva High Athlete his senior year. He was a three year starter on the basketball team and was voted to the Geneva Daily Times All-Area High School 1st Team his senior year. Fran was a 1st team all-league selection his senior year and a 2nd team selection his junior year. He was also an Upstate All-Star honorable mention selection. A three year starter on the football team, Fran was an all-league selection at quarterback. Fran ran track for three years and was the pentathlon champion in 1954. He switched to baseball his senior year where he played shortstop and was a member of 1955 league championship team that reached the sectional finals.

Fran went on to Hobart College where he played freshman football setting a scoring record and was moved up to the varsity for the last two games. He also played freshman basketball and was a starter on the varsity baseball team. Fran went on and had a successful career with the U.S. government. Dr. Edward Cuony said of Fran he “was the consummate team player… a natural leader.”
