Inducted Inaugural Class of 1990
Bill attended Geneva High School where he starred in lacrosse and basketball. He went on to Hobart College where he was an outstanding lacrosse and basketball player. Bill was captain of the basketball team and a co-captain of the lacrosse team his senior year. He was named a Lacrosse All-American and starred in the North-South game in 1940. He was an attackman on the lacrosse team along with two other All-Americans from Geneva, Herb Fitch and Dick Ferris…called the best “threesome” of all time. He was inducted into the Hobart Hall of Fame in 1987.
Bill was a lacrosse official for 20 years and chief referee of the Central N.Y. Association for 10 years. In 1956 and 1972 he was general chairman of the North-South lacrosse games held in Geneva. He was named United States Lacrosse Association’s “Man of the Year” in 1956 and was elected to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1973. He served as director of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame for 3 years. Bill served in World War II as a Captain in the U.S. Marines and saw active duty in the Southwest Pacific Theatre of Operations.
