Matt earned 13 varsity letters (golf, baseball, and swimming) but golf was always his passion! He was introduced to golf early in life by his grandfather, Anthony DeJohn (Hall of Fame, 1994). As a 7th grader on the Varsity Golf team, Matt helped Geneva win its 1st Finger Lakes East crown since 1997. He was a key contributor to six conference championships. Matt was 2nd Team All-Conference in 8th grade, a four-time team MVP, four time 1st Team All-Conference, three-time captain, two-time Finger Lakes East Conference Player of the year and Canandaigua Messenger Player of the Year. He was a recipient of the Panther Inspiration Award for strength and spirit in overcoming adversity.
Matt is a three-time Geneva City Champion (2010, 2011, and 2013). He qualified and competed in the prestigious International Junior Masters, the NYS Junior Amateur Championship, the NYS Junior PGA Championship, the Rochester District Men’s Championship (qualifier medalist), and the NYS Men’s Amateur Championship. He was also a runner-up in the Rochester District junior match play championship and was ranked 5th in the Rochester District that year.
Matt played one year at Monroe Community College (MCC) where he led his team to conference, regional and national championship titles. As a member of the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III championship team, Matt placed 3rd at nationals and earned NJCAA 1st Team All-American honors.
Matt went on to play three years of NCAA Division I golf on scholarship at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) in the NEC conference where he earned his Master’s Degree graduating Cum Laude. He was an All-Conference selection his senior year and made the 2013 NEC Championship All-Tournament team. He was a three-time CCSU scholar athlete, NEC honor roll member, and member of Traveler’s Insurance Athletic Directors All-Academic team. He capped his outstanding collegiate years with national honors by being named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American.
Matt is a professional golf coach in South Florida. He owns the “Matt DeJohn Golf Academy” which provides instruction to elite junior golfers from around the world as well as amateur and professional golfers of all skill levels. Matt’s students have earned many NCAA DI and DII college golf scholarships.
Golf Digest named Matt one of the top teachers in the State of Florida and also named him to their Best Young Teachers list.
