Dr. Cuony was affectionately known as “Butch” to the literally thousands of men and women who passed through the halls of Geneva High School. A football, wrestling, and track star at Kearney High School in New Jersey, Dr. Cuony attended Syracuse University where he distinguished himself as an outstanding tackle on the football team that lost only one game during his sophomore and junior years. He was also a member of the Syracuse varsity wrestling team.
While serving as teacher, guidance counselor, coach, and principal in the Geneva School system for over 28 years, Dr. Cuony left a legacy of professionalism for others to emulate. He started the school’s wrestling program and coached them to Section V Championships. He also coached track, swimming, and football with equal success. Following his brilliant career in the Geneva School system, Dr. Cuony went on to Hobart College as a professor of education.
A distinguished and respected educator, Dr. Cuony has written scores of articles and has been frequently called upon to speak on the subject of education across the nation.
