Lou’s stellar senior season started during fall by being named all-league on offense and defense, All-Greater Rochester, Syracuse Herald Super 22 and 1st team All-State in football. He followed by winning the Section V Class B heavyweight wrestling championship during the winter and in the spring he was the Section V Class B champion in the discus. Finally, that summer he won gold medals in the Empire State Games for heavyweight freestyle and Greco-Roman. He also played in the first ever Eddie Meath All-Star football game.

Lou was name all-league, All-Greater Rochester, and a Syracuse Herald Super 22 pick in football his junior year. He also won a gold medal in the 1982 Empire State Games in the freestyle division in the heavyweight division as a junior. He finished runner-up in the sectionals his sophomore and junior years. His career wrestling record was 114 wins and 7 losses. He holds the Geneva High pin record (7 seconds). After graduating from Geneva High in 1983 Lou went to Hobart College where he was a four-year starter as a defensive lineman. He received the George Barna Award as the outstanding lineman his senior year.
