Inducted Class of 1993
Herb played three major sports at Geneva High including basketball where he once scored eight points in the last two minutes of a game to help his team come from behind to defeat East High. He also made the varsity baseball team as an eighth grader. Herb attended Worcester Academy in 1923-24 where he played baseball, basketball, and football.
Herb played for the Geneva Eagles basketball team from 1924 to 1927. A 1924 newspaper account stated that “the coaches believe that they have a real find in Herb Cooley, former Geneva High and prep school star. Cooley is another natural player of much ability and should make a name for himself in the court game for many years.” On February 15, 1935, Herb became the first bowler in the Geneva area to bowl a perfect 300 game.
