Geneva HS Class of 2003 Inducted Class of 2013
An outstanding two-sport athlete Ray was highly recruited to play football and baseball on the Division 1 level. He chose to play baseball at Niagara University to follow his dream of playing in the major leagues and to play close to home so his family could attend his games.
Ray was named to the Finger Lakes East All-Conference team all four years as an outfielder. He played centerfield where his natural athletic ability and speed were showcased each and every game. He had a career batting average of .388, stole 68 bases in 70 chances and had an on base percentage of .670. Following his high school career Ray was invited to play in the annual Blue/Gray Baseball Classic at Wake Forest University which featured some of the best high school prospects in the country. Ray's collegiate career at Niagara and the Geneva Red Wings of the NYCBL was cut short by injuries. Niagara honored his scholarship and he graduated with a degree in business administration.
Ray also starred in football in high school where he was a three-time all-league selection. His senior year he had over 1000 all-purpose yards and was named 1st-team all-league despite playing half the year with a broken hand. He was selected to play in the Eddie Meath Senior Football All-Star game and was named the Geneva High Athlete of the Year at the Block G Banquet.
