A 1947 graduate of DeSales High, George was named the MVP on the football team his senior year. George started at halfback his sophomore year and at quarterback and safety his junior and senior years. George played on a DeSales team which played a tough independent schedule going up against larger schools across the state. He was also a three-year letterwinner on the basketball team and played shortstop for a team representing DeSales in the Kiwanis Baseball Federation. His accomplishments in football and basketball were viewed with amazement because of the fact he was 5’5” and weighed less that 130 pounds. His speed and agility were also very evident while playing as a left handed shortstop.

George served as team captain of the football and basketball teams his senior year. He was twice voted president of his class and was the Student Council president his senior year. George graduated from Hobart College and coached 7th & 8th grade basketball at St.Stephens School for several years.
