A 1960 graduate of Geneva High, Bill wrestled for four years and had an overall record on the varsity of 58-4-6. As co-captain, he was undefeated and unscored upon his senior year in league matches. Bill was a three-time Finger Lakes league champion and a Section V Champion his senior year. In 1960 he was chosen as the Kiwanis Club Outstanding GHS Wrestler. Bill was also co-captain of the lacrosse team and was named to the Upstate Interscholastic League All-Star team his senior year.

Bill received a full scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh where he wrestled until dislocating his shoulder his sophomore year. Bill taught at Geneva High after graduating from Pitt and coached the Geneva High wrestling team for ten years coaching many Section V Champions. He also coached lacrosse and cross country.
