Dick Baroody was an outstanding basketball player and student at Geneva High School. He played varsity basketball in for three years and graduated from Geneva in 1938. He was the captain of the basketball team in 1938. He entered the University of Rochester in 1940. In his first year, the U of R was the only undefeated team in the nation. During his second season, 1941-42 the team won 28 and lost only 2 games. He served as team captain both seasons.
Dick left for the service in 1942 and after being discharged in 1946 he returned to the University of Rochester where he received his B.A. degree in 1947 and his Masters degree in 1948. He later became a teacher at East Rochester High School and coached the varsity basketball team. Dick was a very successful coach who produced winning teams year after year. His opponents respected his ability and called him a “foxy coach.”
