Tony excelled in all sports, but concentrated on football (1933-1935) and lacrosse (1934-1936) while attending Geneva High School. He was one of the reasons G.H.S. was so successful during these three years. From here he went on to Colgate, Cornell and North Carolina Universities under the U.S. Navy V5 Program. He was a naval aviator during World War II. Tony played semi-pro football from 1936-1940 and from 1946-1948 with local teams. He played with such football greats as Brud Holland, Augie McCalli, Abie Van Cleef and others. He played and coached for the Geneva Orange Crush team for three years. He also played for the Geneva Raiders in the Empire State League.

Tony was also a highly respected official. He officiated college and high school lacrosse games for 25 year and college and high school football games for 35 years. He also donated 25 years of free officiating to Little League Football.
