Ebo Alberts was a name to be reckoned with in football, basketball, lacrosse, and – especially – box lacrosse. A 1934 graduate of Geneva High Ebo played midfield on Geneva teams that beat the freshman teams of Hobart and Syracuse University while defeating a majority of their high school rivals. In his senior year the Panthers defeated the powerful Syracuse Central High, winners of six straight league championships, to capture the league championship. In basketball, his senior year the team won the sectionals and carried a 21-2 record. In football, Alberts played lend (both ways). He also played semi-pro football in the 1940s & 1950s.
In box lacrosse, Ebo played for the Geneva Raiders in the Armory and was considered one of the best in the sport from 1934 to 1948. A 1934 Geneva Daily Times reporter wrote in 1934 that Ebo put “on an exhibition of clever stick handling and speedy floor play that dazzled the Indian defense and added five points to the Geneva score in the final two quarters” Another article states that “seconds after the ‘sudden death’ overtime started Ebo Alberts picked up the pellet on a rebound in mid-court and went the rest of the way right into the Canadian cage to put the game on ice for Geneva.” That article was written in 1947.
