Larry was a three-sport athlete in high school in Geneva, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. It was not until Larry went to Hobart that he began his lacrosse career. Larry was big and strong and had a determination that made him a threat to score whenever he was on the field. In 1961, Larry was the leading scorer in that nation with 43 goals and 29 assists. He was an All-American in 1961 and 1962 and played in the North-South All Star Game in 1962. He was also an outstanding football player receiving ECAC All-East 1st Team honors and honorable mention on the AP Little All-American team. He was inducted into the Hobart Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.

After graduating from Hobart, Larry flew 681 combat missions in Vietnam as a Marine aviator. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, and several other service awards. He assisted with the lacrosse program while a faculty member at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. After serving several years at the Pentagon, Larry retired in the rank of Colonel from the Marine Corps.
