
1990 Geneva High Girls
Indoor Track & Field Team
Seniors Chrissy Bennett, Edna Bogan, Kelly Ernst, Becky Ventura and Calabrese twins, Melody and Melanie provided the leadership on the team that won the 1990 Section V championship, a year after the Panthers finished a close second. They dominated the 15 team field, comprised of many larger Rochester area schools.
Section V Champions were Edna Bogan, Tencie Ford, Trina Pinkard, and Becky Ventura (800 Meter Relay), Chrissy Bennett (Shot Put), Kelly Ernst (Racewalk), and Tencie Ford (50 Meter High hurdles). Second place finishers were Tencie Ford (50M), Trina Pinkard (50M Hurdles), Becky Ventura (Long Jump), and Melanie Calabrese (1500 Racewalk). Third place finishers were Dana Champlin (Shot Put), Kelly Ernst (High Jump), and Melody Calabrese, Edna Bogan, Becky Ventura, Trina Pinkard (1600M Relay). Fourth place finishers were Dana Champlin, Edna Bogan, Jessica Temple, and Melody Calabrese (3200M Relay), Edna Bogan (Triple Jump). Andrea Eidel finished fifth in the shot put. Rachel Jordan also competed and was a valuable member of the team.
This team set several school records that still stand today, 20 years later! Several of these girls went on to successfully compete in the New York State Indoor Track & Field Championship at Cornell University. Coach Canale said, “I never had a team compete harder, or have more fun than these outstanding ladies.” The team was coached by Mike Canale and Wes Kubacki.
