A 1977 graduate of Geneva High, Steve batted over .300 all three years that he started for the Panthers. He was All-Conference his junior and senior years. Steve went on to Ithaca College where he started for four years at third base and as a catcher. Ithaca won four ECAC conference championships and made three World Series appearances during his four years. In 1980 Ithaca won the NCAA Division III National Championship. Steve, who holds several career records at Ithaca, was a second team ECAC All-American in 1981 and a two-time World Series All-Tournament catcher.

Steve signed with the New York Mets in 1981 and was assigned to Little Falls of the NYP League. In 1982 he was assigned to Tidewater in Triple A and also played in Utica. In 1983 he played professional baseball in Italy where he played for the league champions and was an all-star catcher. Steve was a coach for the Geneva Knights NYCBL Championship Team in 1998 and The Newark Raptors in 1999 (Champions) and 2000. He has been teaching and coaching at the high school level in Broward and Dade County. Steve also is the proud owner of Pro Baseball Academy (www.probaseballacademy.com)which provides Broward and Palm Beach County high School and college players with a quality summer baseball program. Steve also runs a college team in the new South Florida Collegiate Baseball League. His son Stevie Jr. is following in his father’s footsteps catching and playing 3B for Southeastern University in Lakeland Florida.
