Bob was a natural athlete in his youth. He attended DeSales High School and played basketball, baseball and football. He was elected captain of the football team in 1936. After entering Cornell University in 1936 he played on Cornell’s first 150 lb. football team. He also played 4 years varsity lacrosse from 1936 to 1940. He was selected to play in the North-South game in 1940. Bob set a single game NCAA scoring record of 10 goals in 1940…which has never been beaten.

Bob was elected to Cornell University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987. Bob also received the Hobart Statesmen Friends Award for outstanding contributions to Hobart and Hobart Athletics…and has been honored for his many civic activities. Bob was an outstanding golfer and won championships at Seneca Lake, Geneva and Oak Hill Country Clubs from 1936 to 1949. After graduating from Cornell, he was a college lacrosse official for many years.
